How to change Transmission Fluid for VOLVO S80 by myself??? thanks

VOLVO S80, 2000,

How much does it cost to change transmission fluid at FIRESTONE or any other shops? Do they do the same job? Or How to change Transmission Fluid for VOLVO S80 by myself???

I need to buy Transmission Fluid and filter before I do that , RIGHT?

THANKSHow to change Transmission Fluid for VOLVO S80 by myself??? thanks?
You don't!! The transmission is sealed with a sealant not a gasket. There is no drain plug to drain it either! There are a few transmission shops that can service it but not many. The transmission also uses a different fluid that Volvo says you have to use but I use Dextron III in mine as it is also for Volvo's.

You transmission is a very weak point of your S80 so make damn sure you have it done right, either way!

I bought a 2nd overhauled transmission for my '00 S80T6 and found it has a problem after installing it and had to have the original one overhauled. $2000 later, transmission is back in and so far it's okay, expect now Volvo is telling me it is leaking at the input seal because the input shaft is too short. It was replaced with an OEM shaft the same length so I am having a hard time believing that! How to change Transmission Fluid for VOLVO S80 by myself??? thanks?
I would not recommend that you take a Volvo to just any general mechanic. Most of them do not see very many of them and they are not aware of how things work on these cars. Find a good independent Volvo mechanic or use a dealership for that type of work. How to change Transmission Fluid for VOLVO S80 by myself??? thanks?
The best way I have found is to pull the hose off of the transmission cooler (has to be the outlet hose from the transmission) then attach a hose to the end of the cooler line and put that hose in a 5 gallon bucket. Add 3 pints of fluid to the transmission (Dextron ATF), start the car and when bubbles start to appear, turn off the engine. Repeat until the transmission fluid is bright red, about 15 quarts.

I would advise you have the software in the transmission module updated to the latest available from Volvo, and have a Volvo tech run through an adaption procedure to get this shifting properly.
