Transmission fluid & filter on a 06 Subaru Outback?

How often are you supposed to change the transmission fluid and filter on a 2006 subaru outback? Mine has 61,000 milesTransmission fluid %26amp; filter on a 06 Subaru Outback?
The owners manual should tell you exactly when to change everything and if you don't have one, you can download the schedule off their website. If I remember, I was told by Subaru that the Auto tranny filter is a lifetime thing and does not need to be changed. Lifetime sounds long since many of these cars last forever but should be fine for well over 100,000 miles. The fluid can't really be changed completely without dropping the pan. just a drain and fill only gets about 60% of the fluid out even if done at a shop. You have a couple options. You can do the drain and fill, drive around a few miles and then do it again and should have about 80% fresh fluid. Or you can take it somewhere to have flushed where they hook the car up to a machine and pump fresh fluid through till it's 100% new. Problem is, automatic tranny's need a small amount of fine grit to work better so flushing on a higher mileage car is not recommended.
